My doctor says most people are deficient in magnesium. Is there a certain test to ask for that will determine such deficiencies? And if so, why isnt such a test routine for general health maintenance?

I started taking a calcium magnesium supplement and immediately started getting this weird twitch in my ear that’s very sensitive to low frequencies, and I’m also much more prone to cramping in my legs. The supplement has 300mg of Calcium (25%RDA) and 350mg of Magnesium (75%RDA) both in "ionized" form, whatever that means. It also contains trace amounts of other minerals like boron and has B-6, B-12, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin D, all in relatively low levels (all below 100% RDA).
I thought Magnesium was supposed to help ease cramps and twitches, not cause them???
Eating a healthy, balanced diet for your nutritional needs is not difficult, but it is trickier than you think.
Successful potassium diets are dependent on a number of other factors about your daily diet, state of health, medical need and well being.
Sodium, magnesium, maintaining a healthy diet, water intake, age, gender and current health condition are all critical factors.
