How much potassium nitrate has to dissolve in water to absorb 100kJ of heat? (answer in kg)
Potassium nitrate has a lattice energy of -163.8kcal/mol and a heat of hydration of -155.5kcal/mol.
I have tried this many times with many different explanations but i cannot get the right answer so a solution and explanation would be great! Thanks!
Eating Healthy?
Hello
Ive decided that I want to cut back on the junk food, so does anyone have any tasty (and healthy!) recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and for snacks?
And any tips on how to STOP eating junk food?
Is it dangerous to consume too much salt substitute?
I notice that potassium supplements are limited by law to approximately 99mg, which is roughly 3% of the RDA. 3% is absurdly low for a supplement.
So, why is this the case? Is potassium potentially highly dangerous?
And if so, is it risky to use a salt substitute, which contains 17% of the potassium RDA in each serving? Since I use salt substitute in place of table salt every time, I easily consume 5-6 servings in a day, which is like taking 30-35 potassium supplement pills.
Thanks!
Good answers so far, thanks. I’ll take them into consideration when considering a different form of salt. I appreciate it!
But no one has really addressed my question exactly. Whether there are other types of salt out there that I could or should be using isn’t precisely relevant to what I asked.
I want to know if using as much of this salt substitute as I do on a daily basis is dangerous. I am only getting about 100% of the RDA for potassium, but it is the equivalent of taking 30-35 maximum legal potency potassium pills each day.
And if it’s NOT dangerous, why are potassium supplements so highly regulated? Why is someone who needs potassium supplementation forced to take over 30 pills just to get 100% of the recommended daily intake?
Power of mind vs. Power of Commercials.?
I think if you made a commercial that sold korans as magic books that guaranteed to improve your jump shot and send you to heaven when you die, people would beleive it.
Today, in Iraq I had picked up lunch for a local national that was doing work for us. He was a diabetic so I made his lunch special avoiding sugars, lots of breads, and giving him caffeine free diet soda. After his meal I saw him grab a Gatorade from the cooler to drink.
That’s when I got into an argument with the other American escourts about the power of American media vs. the true value of Gatorade. I argued that it was not good for him or us but we all think it is because of commercials. They disagreed beleiveing it hydrated you with electrolytes.
Even after explaining why this was false they still thought it was good for the guy.
Every living cell has a sodium potassium (electrolytes) ion exchange pump which regulates the water balance inside and outside cells. Water is attracted to particles (electrolytes) and sodium has a different charge than potassium, so as sodium and potassium will naturally balance out due to polarity water will follow and homeostasis occurs. (Hydration - given they have water.)
Thus you do not need gatorade for electrolytes. In fact gatorade has too much "electrolytes" and has a higher osmolar pull thus reducing the amount of water that goes into your body. Not to mention the sugar in it - put in it only to make it sell better. Sugar is a diuretic. (It makes you pee thus making you less hydrated.)
Plus, sweat is hypotonic. Contains less electrolytes than your blood has. Fluid loss is more of a problem usually than electroylte loss in hot days, especially for people who eat regular meals.
The drink was used on Florida Gators and was attributed to their win, but that was a different formula. Once there became a demand for it they pumped it full of sugar and mass marketed it as a sports drink.
Even after explaining all this, the other American soldiers still thought gatorade was good not only for them, but for the diabetic.
So, back to my question. Being that gatorade, like the supposid health benifits of cigarettes of yore, is unhealthy but beleived to be so because of advertising - how able are our minds to resist what society says around us even despite rational clearly laid out arguments against the statements the t.v. (society) holds as true?
What do I feed this bamboo type-looking houseplant?
I got a big bunch of flowers for my girlfriend and in it was a sturdy, bamboo looking plant which the florist said will grow roots and can be kept in a vase of just water.
I’m sure she said to feed it too but I didn’t listen.
anyway it really is growing but after a few weeks is looking like it’s slowing down and is a bit jaded.
As I don’t know what type of plant it is I don’t know what type of feed to give it…if I give it Nitrogen rich and it’s not what it wants..it could die right? same for potassium…Hmm
I’m no expert but those are the two types of feed I am good with.
I just don’t know anything about this plant.
It is a bright green curly, spirally stick with a bamboo like texture. About a half an inch thick with some little shoots at the top with slender leaves pointing upward.
If you can identify it I will be HAPPY!

Blood Pressure Question?
I’m 24 african american female with extremely high blood pressure 180/120. I hate taking drugs and I have abnormal side effects. I was on atenelol for 3 weeks, but I had nightmares, insomnia, and more anxiety. so My doctor weened me off of atenelol last week, and now i’m taking 1 hcz daily (water pill). But I feel as if its not working on my bottom number! Everytime I eat and then wake up my blood pressure is now 120/95. I’m often dizzy and lightheaded and feel wierd when I dont eat some sort of potassium. Could my problem be that I am losing too much potassium on these water pills? Help me! It only been 3 days on this water pill. When I wake up in the morning, my blood pressure is completely normal! 120/80. Only when I take the water pill, the bottom number goes so high during the day! Help!
THANKS FOR ALL THE RESPONSES.

CURIOUS: Is there any area of vitamin nutrition that is left out that is important for this person's health ?
Taking B complex, Amino Acids, Vitamin C, Hyaluronic acid for joints. And C-0-Q-10 for heart.
Is this complete , or is there an area of supplements that is being left out? Any suggestions for supplements to make it more complete, or well rounded health wise?
