Nausea can rarely occur due to low potassium. The reverse is more likely to occur: vomiting can bring down potassium levels.
A deficiency in potassium will cause edema (water retention) & hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) ………….. eating more foods rich in potassium wil aid in clear thinking by sending oxygen to the brain, help dispose of body wastes, assist in reducing blood pressure & aid in allergy treatment.
Potassium works with sodium to regulate the body’s water balance and normalise heart rhythms. (Potassium works inside the cells, sodium works just outside them). nerve and muscle functioning suffer when the sodium potassium balance is off ……….. cramping and muscle spasms may occur.
foods rich in potassium are ~ citrus fruits, cantaloupe, tomatoes, all green leafy vegies, mint leaves, organic sunflower seeds, bananas and potatoes.
No dietary allowance for potassium has been set but 1600 - 2000 mg is considered a sufficient daily intake for healthy adults………Excess potassium is normally excreted by the kidneys, however, people with impaired kidney function should not eat foods high in potassium or take potassium supplements.
Both mental and physical stress can lead to a potassium deficiency.
Nausea can be caused by a lack of vitamin B6 (Doctors routinely give pregnant women injections of B6 to combat nausea & vomiting) …….. do not supplement with vitamin B6 as an individual vitamin but rather as part of the whole complex of B vitamins ie ~ B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, folic acid etc. as they work best as a group………. nausea can also be caused by dehydration, bad digestion or eating foods to which you are intolerant……….. also, exposure to chemicals to which you are sensitive, such as those contained in perfumes, body lotions, paint or other pollutants ………… ;0)
