		<description>The whole thing with taking iodine after a nuclear attack is to help prevent the body from absorbing radioactive iodine that's prevelant in fallout.  It doesn't block radiation; it just prevents the body from retaining a particular radioactive isotope.

Since taking iodine doesn't block anything, it won't protect astronauts in space from cosmic radiation.  Cosmic rays are emitted by the sun and are very high energy particles and waves that are very hard to stop.</description>
