Chemical Equation.?
Potassium chlorate is a rich source of oxygen. It decomposes upon heating to produce potassium chloride and oxygen. Write a correctly balanced equation for this reaction. (Use the smallest whole numbers possible. Type your answers using the format 2Ca(OH)2 for 2 Ca(OH)2.)

2KClO3 —> 2KCl + 3O2
Potassium = K (+1 charge)
Chlorate = ClO3 (-1 charge)
Chloride = Cl (-1 charge)
Oxygen = O2 (no charge)
KClO3 + heat –> KCl + O2 (equation without balancing)
2KClO3 + heat –> 2KCl + 3O2
Note: remember to balance the charges and that oxygen usually occurs in its diatomic form, therefore it must be O2.
