How do vitamins in fruit benefit the plant or seed?
Oranges are rich in Vitamin C, bananas have lots of potassium, etc. That’s good for any animal eating them, but the fruit withers before it drops, and I don’t see what’s in it for the seeds to be surrounded by a formerly vitamin-rich substance. Is there any benefit to the seeds, or is it just an evolutionary trick to attract birds to eat the fruit to be healthy and scatter the seeds?
