I am on the high BP pills for last 4 months. Can I discontinue them and still my BP will remain normal.?
Thanks folks for the sincere advices. I am highly obliged.
But, when I visit my physician, he looks very unsure at times. Besides, I think my BP (higher) problem was temporary (as I feel, but may not be true).
Moreover, I am afraid, I may develop some another problem due to side effects of these meds.
So, I am confused. I wanted an honest opinion from the one who might have experience of discontinuing these pills!
Again Thanks!

Depending on your cause of hypertension your doctor is in a position to give you the correct advise.
why don’t you call the dr. on that one… they will be VERY clear
No, the medication is doing something whether it’s making you get rid of excess water or dialating your blood vessels. Do not stop without seeing your doctor.
You need to see your doctor. Do NOT stop your medication on your own. Often times if people make changes in their life (weight loss, exercise, and diet changes) that they keep for the rest of their life which allows them to come off of their BP meds but your doctor needs to make that decision.
Do not just stop taking your pills it is extremely dangerous! What pills are you on?
Usually unless you resolve the factor that is making your BP high in the 1st place you will always be on pills, it really does depend on the underlying cause though.
Really you should speak to your Dr about possible lifestyle changes and your long term care plan!
Hope this helps!
My friend, 37 years old, quit taking his blood pressure medication because it messed with him to where he wasn’t able to perform sexually. He had a full blown heart attack and died in Feburary…3 weeks after is baby boy was born. Please discuss this with your doctor.
What medication are you taking? If it’s anything ending in "…..lol" (such as Propranalol for instance) then the risk of you dying is greatly increased.
Others aren’t so harmful; they don’t do much good either, but you can safely stop taking them, -they all have side-effects.
However, if you’re on a beta-blocker (ending in "…. lol ") then be sure to stop gradually, -not suddenly, … otherwise you get a "beta-blocker bounce" effect.
The short answer is NO.
Patients should NEVER discontinue their medications without prior consent from the prescribing physician.
High blood pressure can lead to heart attack, stroke, or even death. Hypertension (high blood pressure) is labeled the "silent killer."
Your BP medication is working and that is why your pressures are lower now. They will elevate again once you stop taking the medication.
Do not listen to anyone on this that says you can gradually go off of them or whatever, DO NOT DO THIS. BP pills are not very expensive nowadays if they are generic on most plans and are well worth it.
Have a good one!
