Just wandering if anyone has some advice on child vomiting, loss of appetite, leg pains, abdominal swelling?
my 3 yr old has vomiting episodes on a regular basis, little or no appetite, she has been like this pretty much since she has been born, but it started out like maybe it might be acid reflux and she has been given medications for reflux, viral and bacterial infections, has been hospitalized for low potassium and dehydration, she doesn’t have bowel movements unless i give her medication for that, the doctors keep saying try this, try that and have not really done any tests, except bloodwork.

Have the doctors tested your child for Celiac Disease????? This common condition is rarely diagosed, yet it can cause all of your child’s symptoms! In the U.S. doctors are so unaware of this common condition that only 3% of people suffering from it ever get it properly diagnosed! Note: Celiac disease often causes diarrhea, but it can cause constipation - if your docs are not aware of this, they may not consider this very likely diagnosis.
Celiac disease is an allergic reaction to the proteins in wheat, rye and barley called glutens/gliadins. It causes damage to the lining of the small intestine - the part of the intestinal tract that is vital for digestion and absorption of nutrients. It causes reflux, vomiting (in some - especially children), and maabsorption of nutrients (e.g. potassium).
The only treatment is to avoid all food sources of wheat, rye and barley and their related gluten/gliadin proteins.
Insist that your doctor tests your child. Better yet, insist on a referral to an EXPERT in Celiac Disease for proper testing.
Best wishes and good luck.
Your poor little girl - she’s never really been well, has she?
I am emphatically not a doctor, just someone interested in health. The symptom that jumps out at me is the leg pain. The others are really common but the leg pain is unusual.
I googled these symptoms and found this, from the Readers Digest Canada online magazine:
"Difficulty Walking:
One evening seven-year-old Stefanie O’Connor complained of pain in her left hip and began walking with a limp. Her father, Jerry, told her it was probably because she had been playing soccer all day. But a few hours later when Stefanie began to cry from the pain and was unable to walk, Jerry took her to the British Columbia Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.
There he learned that her problem was toxic synovitis, a condition marked by inflammation and fluid in the hips and knees that affects about three percent of children between three and seven.
Because it is usually triggered by a recent bout of an upper-respiratory virus, toxic synovitis is sometimes called "a cold in the hip." The affected child usually recovers by taking an anti-inflammatory drug and staying off the leg until the pain ceases.
While toxic synovitis shouldn’t cause undue alarm, its symptoms can mimic infectious arthritis, which is extremely serious and can cause irreversible joint damage. Fever along with leg pain may indicate an advanced infection. A blood test and an X ray are needed for an accurate diagnosis.
Limping can also be a sign of less common but serious ailments such as leukemia, juvenile arthritis, Lyme disease or Legg-Perthes disease.
"Any child who refuses to walk or is limping should be examined right away," says Dr. Richard Beauchamp, an orthopedic surgeon at the British Columbia Children’s Hospital. "And if the child also has a fever of more than 38°C, take him to the hospital."
I don’t want to scare you but I think your little girl needs to be examined by an orthopedic specialist, if she hasn’t already been.
