Loop Diuretics adverse effects?
as i understand, loop diuretics inhibit sodium reabsorption, inhibiting sodium reabsorption would also stop potassium secretion into the lumen of the distal tubule…i looked up some websites and it says there one adverse effect of loop diuretics is hypokalemia due to too much potassium being secreted..but shouldn’t it be hyperkalemia ’cause now sodium reabsorption is stopped so potassium secretion should also stop so there should be a build up potassium which leads to hyperkalemia? dehydration was also cited as an adverse effect..but how so? shouldn’t the person taking these diuretics not be dehydrated ’cause less sodium is being reabsorbed? pls. help me clarify this
