Potassium, bananas, and lethal injection?
Lethal injection is the injection of potassium. How much potassium does it take to kill?
Bananas are said to be very high in potassium. How much potassium is in a banana?
Lastly, can one eat so many bananas, or be on a diet consisting mostly of bananas over a long period of time, eventually suffer from potassium poisoning?
I can’t decide which category to put this question in.
I know I’m weird. Stop pointing that out.
Wow, Jet Li answered my question. That’s awesome. =p

That is actually a great question that people do not know the answer to. See site below about vitamin/mineral supplements and how they are different than food. It talks about potassium from a pill and from a food. Huge difference.
200 mg of potassium (K) can make you sick yet 2 avocados with 2,400 mg of K is fine. Even 10 bananas with 4,000 mg is fine. Yet FDA does not allow more than 99 mg of K in a supplement. I love this question. It is brilliant and people are at a loss to answer it. I looked at the site above and the guy says that he could NOT find an answer.
admitting it is the first step to recovery lol
really i dont know but i eat alot of banannas because i have probs with cramps in my legs due to my restricted diet and need the potassium
seen plenty of men on death row injected with a banana ..
No, if you stuffed yourself with bananas day and night you might do yourself harm, but it wouldn’t be from potassium overdose. For one thing, you woudl get a raging diarrhea, and diarrhea drains potassium from the body. Remember monkeys eat bananas all the time and their bodies are not very different from ours. There is no where even close to enough potassium in bananas to allow one to overdose. However, like I said, if you could hold them down (unlikely) and you really stuffed yourself with them day and night, you could do other bad things to your body, and sure, you could kill yourself.
ANSWER: There’s really no point to fear any potassium “overdose” even when eating a fair number of bananas. Research done on wild monkeys showed that they eat over 6500 milligrams of potassium per day, which would take you over 15 bananas to eat as much potassium as they do. Plus wild monkeys are smaller in size than we are, so we could eat even more bananas and not even reach the potassium intake a monkey has on a daily basis.
you can’t really od on bannanas, but you can recieve to high of a does if injected, too much potassium will cause heart palpitation and can kill you.
