People who have kidney failure must be on a low-potassium diet, since the kidneys cannot excrete potassium and it can build up in the body. People on a type of diuretics called "potassium-sparing" (spironolactone/Aldactone) might also need to limit their potassium.
On the other side, patients on other diuretics (thiazides or loops, like Lasix) will need to increase their potassium intake, since these drugs may the body lose potassium. People who are on digoxin also need extra potassium, since low potassium can cause digoxin to build up in the body.
Hope this helps. Are you doing your homework???
