Will increasing potassium lower water retention?
So I have been trying to lower my water retention and the two main things I found were to lower my salt intake and increase my water intake.
My question is, if lowering salt intake decreases water retention will raising potassium intake decrease water retention as well? Aren’t they "opposites" so to speak?
Thanks!

The key to this and any problem concerning sodium & potassium is to realize that these minerals are reciprocal and BALANCE is the real solution. It is so stupid to tell someone that high blood pressure is due to consuming too much salt. That is ridiculous because all salts are not created equal and there is no credible study that shows salt causes high blood pressure.
All the cells in your body contain a sodium pump and a potassium pump. Sodium pump puts nutrients into a cell and potassium pump takes it out. BALANCE is the key here. By increasing potassium, if you are deficient can have an effect, but the real solution is to eat only salt that has good balanced proportions of these minerals. There are some sea salts that are loaded with good electrolytes, including potassium & sodium in good balance. That is what you need. The body really needs salt to make HCL for digestion for one thing. Salt supports good adrenal function and many other things in the body. To limit salt is stupid and simply shows ignorance on anyone that recommends that.
good luck to you
No, potassium (like sodium) is a solute, meaning it retains water in the body due to osmosis. Potassium and Sodium in many aspects are very alike, so saying they are opposites is very misleading.
Just drink enough fluids like you said and you’ll be fine.
